From London, London is Al Goodwin. He’s not a flashy pop star with layers of noise that we call "music" by today’s popular standards, nor does he resemble the modern rock star. Instead, Al Goodwin brings a fresh sound that is "back to basics". His presentation of music delivers a mixture of 70's acoustic, early 90's folk, and modern pop that places along the likes of Neil Young, Crowded House, Crosby Still, & Nash, and Five Times August.
Recently released, The Stone that Brought the Girl
is Goodwin's newest 4-track EP and the 12-track debut EP, entitled, Celebrate . Both albums are filled with raw truth of Goodwin's personal life translated into song. “The Stone that Brought the Girl
” is an up tempo track, but the lyrics tells a different story. A story about a dilemma which involved two stones and these stones were a cross road that would later be a life changing revelation that would ultimately change the coarse of his future. "Human Touch" is about simply being a dad without being too gaga and having to face the responsibilities we have in this world. "Lucky Stars" is just me looking for a glimmer of hope that one day my talent will be recognised and the effort is worthwhile.
Overall, The Stone that Brought the Girl and Celebrate are both just enjoyable as the other. Music is rather simplistict and the tempos are relatively constant throughout. Rather than taking the listener into a musical journey with assorted arrangements with guitar solos, crafty hooks, or crazy drum solos, there are singular dimensions. There are some minor redundancies from one song to the next, but Al Goodwin is more intent on telling the story about events his life. "I'm a songwriter enjoying the new music industry working hard to get my just dues from my music," says Goodwin. "Music is my biography." In this case, music is secondary and a byproduct of the stories he tells and that is why Al Goodwin is a memorable artist.

Songs played in this episode: The Stong the Brought the Girl, Human Touch, and Lucky Stars.
